Project Lead: Carolyn M. Baum, Ph.D.Co-PI: Donald Stuss
Grant Title: Brain recovery: return of cognitive and social function
Program Area: Bridging Brain, Mind & Behavior
Grant Type: Collaborative Activity Award
Year Awarded: 2001
Project Summary:
The collaborators share a vision about how research could best be used to improve real-world recovery following brain injury. Prior support has allowed the two institutions to develop an analytical framework describing patient status and appropriate therapeutic intervention from the neurobiological to the social/environmental level, that is from the hospital’s emergency room to the patient’s home and community. With this framework in hand, they intend to share tools, such as standardized outcome measures, common cognitive testing batteries, procedures for analysis of anatomic and functional magnetic resonance images, and a shared database, that would allow them to coordinate and hopefully optimize patient care at all these levels.
